Artist's Comments

This is obviously photoshopped from strips cut out of nine original photographs of my muse breaking into a smile. Finding an apposite surrealistic name took longer than processing the picture. There is a giant file preserving the original high resolution but it's over forty times the size of this one! (Mr a)

A long time after submitting this I discovered that it consists of eight different stereo viewable panels, each with a different expression! Just cross your eyes slightly and relax...

A lot of painstaking cutting and stitching in Photoshop went into it. More than you might think if you look very closely indeed at the shadows on the wood you'll see that some of the B&W sections are NOT reflected. the effect is subtle but real. It 'straightened out' the illusion of bending in the top strip, somehow and made the 'comb teeth' look straighter.

The original nine photos which led to this piece were taken with me trying to stay serious while mr aegian tried to make me smile. They were taken at about 11:00am in golden sunlight from a sun low in the horizon so that the rays almost washed out the details of my face.

After the shoot I cropped the pictures to show just my face and the edge of the two tree trunks. The pictures were then cropped more tightly. The wooden trunks now suggested long hair. When they were placed in a series it was a short step to turn one set sepia and the other black and white. After that they were stacked.

This piece recalls the years and years I have walked through galleries seeing one picture after the other, stacked in my mind as tightly as these pictures have been to form a honeycomb of artistic pleasure deep inside my cortex.

mrs aegian.
